But its leaves remind me of one. I tend to call it my NotACarrot plant. What it actually is I've no clue. I got it when it was tiny, just barely two or three leaf clusters. You can see in the first picture that it had a larger stem once which was cut off. This is how it was when I bought it. I think the weight of the new growth pulled it to the side, the chopped off stem was originally quite vertical. It seems to like the light level where it is, and likes the soil relatively damper than most of my plants. It took me awhile to figure out its light and water preferences - hence the long empty stretch on the stem, where foliage kept dying away, poor thing. Luckily I never quite managed to kill it, though there were some close calls! It seems happy and healthy now, but I still have no idea what it is. Or whether it needs propping up. Is it okay to let it flop over like that with the weight of the foliage increasing?
Boy, the foliage really does look the same, though from a Google image search, mine looks like a very unhealthy one. Not that that surprises me - I've had the devil's own time getting it to survive at all. Now I can start taking proper care of it. Speaking of which, it looks like I'd better prop it up! Yay for identifications! I thank you, but I bet my plant thanks you more, because it will now be better cared for and healthier.
Well I'll do my best. Looks like I have to prop it into an upright position and clip its wings a tich to make the bottom fill in. Teacher: Billy, use the word 'geometry' in a sentence. Billy: The little acorn grew and grew, and one day it looked around and said "Gee, I'm a tree!" Someday my poor little Aralia will be a big, strong, happy tr...whatever-it-is.
