In going through my Newfoundland photos I am able to identify most of the flower pictures, but not this one. They are striking, but I have no idea what they might be. Can anyone help?

    Thanks
    Richard

    A species of eyebright Euphrasia.

In the left foreground a species of rattle Rhinanthus.

    Thanks Michael,

Pretty. To bad it's not native.
Spotting the out of focus, not flowering Rhinanthus, as well.
    You know your stuff!

    Again, Tanks,
    r.

Sure it's not native? According to this page http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=EUPHR there's six Euphrasia species native to Newfoundland (scroll down to the individual species maps, pale blue = native, grey = naturalised). Identifying the genus is very easy, but getting them down to species is a very tricky task (they're a real mess of dozens of microspecies!).

I guess I was figuring naturalized was not the same as native. I will recalibrate ;-)
