Hi, I am very new to this and by no means a gardner but I really love plants. This year I decided to plant some beautiful plants under a fir tree so it is quite shady. My hostas did okay but not great due to some bug that left holes in them and my daylily as well as my bleeding heart did okay. What other plants would be good in the shade? I would love suggestions and is there anything I can plant now as it is getting colder at night?

slugs like hosta - so that's probably what ate the leaves.

heuchera do very well in shade as do ferns. lily of the valley (can be invasive though), also.

Thanks so much for all the information. Can Lily of the Valley be planted any time?
