When we visited New Zealand we saw this beautiful Christmas tree. Would this tree grow here in Sechelt? and where can I purchase this tree? The other tree I would love from there is the norfolk pine.

I loved this trip and would like to plant memories of it in my garden!

    Thank you,
    Robyn

Thanks. That is a beauty. Its botanical name is Metrosideros excelsa. Another common name is pohutukawa tree, which it's known by in California. It's only hardy to zone 9, which is warmer than around here. That's probably just as well. Wikipedia says "In coastal California, it is a popular street and lawn tree, but has caused concern in San Francisco where its root systems are blamed for destroying sewer lines and sidewalks. ... In parts of South Africa, the pōhutukawa grows so well that it is regarded as an invasive species."
