My new acquisition is from our local natural foods grocery store- they get some of the fancy Buchholz plants that are in rocks, boxes, etc. I always pause to check them out, but never buy (as they are a little spendy for me). BUT, much to my delight, they had a few flats of "Acer Palmatum Seedling Selections." None were named, some alike, some different- the tags were very specific to say that they COULD be from a "choice plant such as Mikawa Yatsubusa or the Ghost series" OR they could be "standard green Acer P." I guess part of the fun is not knowing, eh? Well, this little guy seemed like an obvious Ghost offspring, and I am super stoked to watch him grow! Brand new foliage appears a light green with red veins and then turns progressively more red-purple/green as they age. I love the black bark :) Name suggestions? :) (sorry about the terrible photographs- I haven't yet found a compact camera that works well for plant macro)
