We have had a Redbud tree blooming each spring for 20+ years and it is beautiful. Last year, I noticed one of the branches had died and had no blossoms this spring. Now after a good bloom this spring, I see that only the new growth from last year has leaves - just at the ends of the branches. There are no leaves where the blossoms were. Is this some sort of blight? We have never had this before. If it had been late frost, wouldn't all of the leaves have been hit? What would cause this and is there hope for the tree for next year? Is there anything I can do as we love this tree. I have attached a picture taken last spring. If necessary, I will take one of how it looks now with few leaves. I didn't know I was going to be sending this tonight or I would have taken one today.(You may have to click on save attachments or manage attachments since I am using a Mac and sometimes PC users can't see attachements until they do that.) Thanks for any help anyone can give. dpg777
Branch dieback and even total failures are common with these. Searching garden chat sites may turn up pages of questions about it. Almost as bad as grafted Japanese maples.
