I'm re-arranging some of my furniture after the holidays...and just realized that I would like to add a few plants, but with specific criteria.

I need something tall but not wide. Does not need to flower. Prefer something not like a palm b/c most of my in-door plants resemble palms. Not a ficus b/c I've killed 2 of those already. Oh, and can go long periods of time between watering b/c I'm a mom/law student/work part time, so I tend to forget about watering my plants.

    Thanks!

Sanseveria.--- Perhaps something in the silk/artificial line? These come in any shape you want, and watering is not a problem.

Maybe a tall cactus or two, if you have good light for them....

Why does it need to be a plant? Why not some piece of furniture or sculpture instead? I've never been too keen on one using living plants as if they were inanimate objects. Professional interior designers are constantly replacing indoor plants with fresh material. Plants need good light and humid conditions of a greenhouse to do well and those conditions are typically not comfortable to people. Most so-called "house plants" suffer a miserable slow death the way most people mistreat them.

Most tropicals adjust to the low humidity indoors. They can do perfectly fine indoors without a greenhouse environment, while others need High Humidity and light to survive. I have had the same plants for years, most of them in the living room, and all are green and healthy.

That's because you TAKE CARE OF THEM.

Yes I do! Because of possible lack of watering, or just forgetting to water on the part of the poster, that's why I suggested cactus.

I agree with Cereusly Steve. From what the poster tells us, I think she'd be well advised to go with silk plants or a tasteful sculpture. Or a floor lamp. As living things, plants do require care: folks should realistically evaluate what level of care they will be able to give, and acquire plants accordingly. This is NOT a character judgement---just being realistic.
