We moved into a new house last year.
The front lawn is now looking very yellow and sickly.
Around the edges it is quite green but in the middle is the main yellow patch.
it was new sod put down and I think the main problem is a lack of top soil underneath.
The builder put down jut enough top soil to get by then put turf down and it looked good at the time.
This year I am thinking it needs a good top dressing.
What would be the best product to use?
I hear Chicken manure is good but smelly.
Do you have experience with that and could it be delivered in bulk to spread on the lawn as a liquid?

I could get a load of top soil delivered and spread that but am not sure I would be able to get it spread thinly and evenly.

I could call Nutri Lawn and get a quote. Any experience with them?

We have a standard 33 foot lot with some of the back paved so not much lawn really.

If it has a severe deficiency, nitrogen for instance you may have to use a chemical fertilizer to see a strong, quick response. Also at this time of the year it may be too cold for applications of organics to be fully effective. What to do depends on what, exactly the problem is - the fact that the edge is green is probably significant.

    Thanks for your reply.
I am more interested in making a sustained response than a quick one.
The main problem in my opinion is a lack of top soil under the new turf. What was under there was sand which was spread so the builders could walk on it with sub soil under that.
It needs organic material added then to get the worms working.
Perhaps some bales of peat spread out or bags of mushroom manure.
The reason the edges are greener is because that where the top soil went.
I did add Scotts fertilizer last year and can do that again.
    I used a drop spreader.
it was nice and green afterwards. Will that do it in the end?
It has underground sprinklers so it gets well watered.
