Today I planted this Jubaea chilensis after raising it from seed 9 years ago. It stands 2 and a half feet tall and is 7" thick in the trunk. These are quite scarce around these parts and command big money when you do find them at a nursery. Walt Rockfellow in Seattle has proably the largest Jubaea in the PNW region.

Hey Barrie, nice palm. Where did you get the seed?

I honestly don't recall Carol. It may have been RPS but I think it was another source.

Beautiful plant Barrie. You must be proud since you grew it from seed. Seeing all of these palms growing on the island is making me want to move there. I'm very envious !!

Padraigan ... We've always got room for more palm & exotic growers on Vancouver Island. We had a visitor the other day that was awestruck and wants to sell her mainland home and set roots down here.
If I had to live anywhere else in British Columbia it would be the southern interior.

    Cheers, LPN.

I grew up in Ladner and went to visit the big island on a regular basis. I guess when I got older ( teens ) and was visiting there, I wasn't looking at the trees, so I don't remember seeing them. I do remember going to visit Butchart Gardens when I was 16. It was only after I started to use the internet about six years ago, that I came to realize there were so many palms etc growing there. I can't afford to live there being a single person, so that is all that has stopped me I suppose. There are many beautiful gardens here also but to be truthful, the heat is a little much for me. I have webbed feet. ( I hope this particular post is not unacceptable on this forum ) so sorry, in advance. Cheerio for now...... P

Well I know Ladner well. I also grew up there! In fact I was there from 1973 to 2001. I also spent some time in Tsawwassen during those years. Small world really. There's a good chance we may know each other, or have heard of one another. Certainly there would be people from Ladner known to each of us.
The Island is really home for me now, and it's a much better lifestyle. Pehaps if you choose to reply we could do so via private message on this forum, by or e-mail.

    Cheers, LPN.
