I just bought a Fat Albert Blue Spruce. I noticed when I got it home that the leader branch has been pruned. Is this a problem? What will this mean for the growth pattern of this tree?

I have heard of some nurseries cutting the leader out of a Colorado Blue Spruce and selling it as a Fat Albert. I would go back to the nursery (with the plant) and inquire about the situation. It may not be their fault, but their supplier's.

I suspected this since the other Fat Alberts that I saw at another nursery really look quite different. Thanks for the information... I plan to inquire at the nursery where the tree was purchased.
