In The Garden: New cane species?

    This is a new cane species in my garen a donation from a friend. What is the name of it?

    Looks to be a Phyllostachys. Except when distinctive traits happen to be present on the mature growth these are identified by the characteristics of the culm sheaths on the new shoots emerging from the ground during the main flush in spring. There is little to go by in the photos shown here.

    I agree with Phyllostachys- this genus of Bamboo is easily identified by the presence of a sulcus (groove) running lengthways in the internodes of the culms which can be seen in your photos.
    Could be Phyllostachys aurea.

    They are not at all taller then 2meters High.
