http://thetyee.ca/News/2009/10/15/SeedsOfSuccess/ An article about developing varieties in the Honduras to enable people to return to the land to an agrarian life-style . An article that makes one pause as considering the benefits of modern varieties that just don't help this sort of situation. I've seen elsewhere, that some of those improved crops which require no roundup do need costly fertilizers and in the long run, after harvest & all costs are considered, there was no net gain in dollars for the farmer and not much increase in harvest after all. Has this experiment run long enough to determine once & for all whether it is worth it, all costs including environmental ones and feeding people considered? It is starting to sound as tho the old ways, of people feeding themselves, still works out best for all involved. D
