I'm new to the forum and my primary interest is in photography. So I want to confess up front that my interest is more commercial than personal. I live in Switzerland and I am trying to build a photo catalog of as my indigenous plants as I can, especially wildflowers. And I would like to sell the photos on stock sites such as alamy.com and photoshelter.com. So in order to have a clean conquence I want to ask what people think of me posting images for identification or comfirmation of identification. The photos are more valuable if I can associate a common and scientific name to the plant. To view my flowers on Alamy follow this link and type in flower in the search box. Link to my images on Alamy What are your thoughts about posting pictures and asking for help identifying them given what I've said? Thanks in advance for your thoughts
It's up to the moderators, I'd ask them about the policy or look for information about it it posted here on the forums.
The issue is similar to the one re: requesting IDs for school assignments. How would one police it if it wasn't allowed?
Thanks Daniel, I thought it would be alright but I also thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. Some people can feel mislead if they find out your interest is mostly commercial and not your passion.
One option, if you feel your commercial activity is benefitting from the forums, perhaps make a donation to the UBC Gardens? Supporting the UBC Gardens
My intrest here is a passion for plants that has led to being the means of making income. This intrest definately does overflow to personal time at home, but there is still the two-way street of learning/improving between the professional and personal world. I would feel, in regards to your concern, that I am still learning from others or myself when we are assisting you with identification. Also, I would consider any consequences of public posting of pictures that may interfere with your business needs. Of course, the other ideas above are quite excellent, too!
