Never Seen this before ...

    A Western Red Cedar seems to be growing right out of a Sitka Spruce (100 years old according to the sign) in Crescent Park (Surrey), BC. Of course it's just twisting around it.

    On wetland sites, where the ground level may be somewhat inhospitable new conifers and other plants often get started on logs. Or in this case a fissure or pocket at the base of a living tree.
