Identification: never seen this before-what is it?

    lichen? insect eggs?
    what do we do about it?

    For interest's sake, here are a couple of slime molds I have found in my garden - close to Parksville.

    Do they become slimy at some point in their life cycle I wonder?

    (The yellow one is called 'Dog vomit slime mold'.) Yuck!
