This small tree is not doing well... disease or bug infestation. But before I can determine what is the problem, I need to find the name of the tree. If you recognize it, please let me know. I live in zone 10-b. Thank you.
Re: Need tree/shrub identification before I can "cure" it from its disease or bug eff i looked at this last night - didn't respond because i don't know what the tree is. was hoping someone else would see and post. the spots basically look like some type of fungal infection. could also be cold damage (not sure where weston is. i do know some parts of florida had freezing temps over the winter). it could also be damage from some creature - either something that just did damage when landing or somehting that is actually eating the leaves. i know i'm not being all that helpful! until the tree is id'd and we can then look into what types of infestations affect it (both bugs, bacterial and fungal), i'd just monitor things...wouldn't do any pruning or treatments yet. (they can sometimes do more damage than repair if you do the wrong thing).
Re: Need tree/shrub identification before I can "cure" it from its disease or bug eff Thank you Joclyn, let's see if someone knows this tree. I am sure one of you does!!!! It's probably very typical of South Eat Florida as my garden does not seem to have been planted by a fancy plant lover! We moved 4 months ago, and the garden definitely lacked "tender loving care" before. Thanks.
Re: Need tree/shrub identification before I can "cure" it from its disease or bug eff Looks like a Ficus. Problem seems likely to be environmental, maybe minerals in irrigation water. Nearest Florida Cooperative Extension office may be able to assist.
Re: Need tree/shrub identification before I can "cure" it from its disease or bug eff Thank you Ron B. It is more than likely a ficus... not sure which variety though. My neighbor has a ficus hedge which had been infected with the white flies... but my ficus tree is a different kind, and does not seem to have attracted any white flies. The leaves are quite thick and glossy. It is growing under a "bottle brush" tree. Probably planted there to fill in the space around the bottle tree trunk. The ficus seems to want to grow out from there, but I am afraid to move it as the roots must have grown large. Can I just trim it and keep it as a bush, "small"?
