I am very new to growing and caring for maples. Currently I have two Ukigumo maples and I'm in love with them. I'm looking for a smallish (up to about 10 feet tall and not too wide) japanese maple that has outstanding fall color and can handle a place in the landscape in full sun. Can anyone suggest some maples that might fit this description? I've been trying to search through various websites and am just overwhelmed by all the possibilities so I was hoping there were some japanese maple experts here who could help! Thanks! Tanya
this site lists which ones are better for fall color....most maples need some shade http://www.mountainmaples.com/WS4D_Cookie=7.16.06_19,42,43_24/index.html do you keep your ukigumo in full sun? i just bought one of these :) you might wanna get this stuff if your putting them in full sun ...(Pro-TeKt) helps prevent burning tips
How about Nicholsonii, or Eddisbury? There are many choices, perhaps, that will do fine in the sun of the pacific NW. Of course, ukigumo is not one of them! -E
Thank you. I'm going to look up those suggestions! Emery - unfortunately, I was told when I purchased the Ukigumos that they would do fine in the sun here in the Pacific Northwest and that's where I have them right now. I don't have much shade in my yard and I'm currently trying to come up with a solution for my beauties. Thanks again for the suggestions!
