    Hi everyone,

A friend of mine is looking to plant a flower in his garden but doesn't know the name of it. The actual flowering part is purple, but there are a few more petals behind the main bud that are pink and they are long and thin with some orange at the tips. The whole thing is fairly small, about maybe 1-2 inches in diameter. He also tells me its supposed to hang downward I guess off the stem. If anyone could help me out, that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Are we talking an annual, a perennial, a bulb, a shrub...?

Guessing wildly, I'm thinking Aquilegia, but that might just be because it just turned up in a concurrent thread.

Any idea what the leaves look like?

To be honest I have no idea. He basically just had it in a little cup with another flower. I saw the other flower and looked up some pictures on the internet and found out it was a violet petunia. Dunno if that helps you any. I'll try and describe this as best I can.

The flowering part has big wide purple petals. Looks almost like a mini tulip hanging upside down. Then behind the actual purple head of the flower are some pink petals. Now whereas the purple petals are big and wide, these ones are fairly thin and long. They come to a point at the tips and have an orange tinge at the tips. Hope that helps. I'm at work atm so I don't have a camera on me to take a pic.

Maybe he should just go to a garden centre and wander around, if he plucked this off someone's flower arrangement or garden, chances are it's in bloom now and he would find some for sale.

Hmm. Well I just got another look at the thing and I was a little off on my description. The back pink petals are actually quite big. It kinda looks like when this thing was still a bud, it was pink, then it flowered but the pink petals stayed behind the flower itself and the flowering petals turned purple. There's also some fairly long filaments. And the flower looks more like a mini rose in full bloom than a tulip. Most likely he'll just end up doing that, but now I wanna figure it out lol. I dunno, I'm one of those people that have to figure out exactly what it is or it'll bug me for a long time.

I appreciate all your help thus far. If you can figure it out, that would be great. If not, that's fine too and I thank you for taking the time to help out.

You nailed it Chris. Yea, it looks exactly like a fuchsia. Now I just gotta find exactly which one it is. It kinda looks like the Bahia, but the top leaves aren't quite as deep in color. They're much more pink. Almost like a mix between the Bahia and the Grand Brix. Either way, thanks a lot Chris and Karin for the help.
