Nobody I know can identify this beautiful, huge shrub growing in my flower bed, so I thought I'd turn to the experts! Unfortunately, the closeup photos are a bit fuzzy, but hopefully they'll be sufficient. I live in northern Alabama (zone 8). As you can see from the third photo, the shrub in question doesn't change in winter. It reminds me of a crape myrtle because it's easily shaped to grow like a tree. It doesn't produce any flowers or berries. The leaves are naturally the yellow-trimmed green, and they don't change colors. I would love to know what this is, because it's one of my favorite plants on our property. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much! Ah, my little (well...not so little) variegated Chinese privet. I notice that in some regions it's considered an invasive/pest plant. Luckily, mine doesn't ever produce flowers or fruit/seeds, so this Big Momma is the only one around. And I do so love this shrub. We keep her trimmed into a nice, umbrella-like tree shape and have a concrete bench underneath her where the neighborhood cats like to sit. :-)
