This is an outdoor plant, at least here in the San Francisco Bay Area. We have two pots of it (approx 14 inch diameter each). It looks to be a bulb or rhizome although I have not dug up any to confirm this. Leaves are leathery but pliable. Not sharp or fleshy like a bird of paradise or yucca. The individual flowers have a bright blue stripe around the outside edge that is curling back with a very intense yellow pollen area displayed.
