Hi, This is my first post. As I was cutting back some rose bushes the other day, I found this plant hiding in the back behind them. I've been looking all over the internet to try to find out what it is. Can anybody help steer me in the right direction? The leaves are kind of variegated and it sort of looks like parsley to me. I'm in Southern California if that helps. Thanks very much!
Looks like Celery. Please can you pick a stalk and smell it. If Celery the stalks will be crescent shaped in section. Please do not eat it 'till positive of id! Wow, maybe it is celery. I just went out and pulled one of the stalks off and it does smell like celery! It also looks very much like one of your pictures. But are celery plants variegated? And how would it get into the garden in order to sprout up behind the roses like that, all by itself? Here are a couple more pictures. The first is of the stalk that I pulled off (with a dime for size comparison). It definitely is crescent shaped like you said. And the second is one that I took of the base of the plant. That part of the garden is shaded at this time of the day, so I hope it shows up okay.
