When we bought our house there were no neighbours behind us, now we feel like goldfish in the only two storey house in the neighbourhood. Especially when we're hangin' out on our patio. Here is a photo of our balcony patio so you have an idea on what it looks like. I had all these planters on the railing, but have since taken them down because they were too heavy. Anyone have any ideas on how to create some privacy? My hubby's idea is to put white plastic lattice on top of the railings, but I think that would look tacky... it might look okay once they're covered in ivy or climbing plants... any other ideas? b.t.w. anyone know exactly which day this photo was taken?? lol
Okay, well, here's the plan... We're going to build a type of frame to extend the height of the railing and add white lattice. Then we're going to add slats to cover the gaps in between the existing railing. I'm thinking it'll look quite nice. Here's an idea on kinda what we have in mind: http://www.fairwayvinyl.com/images/fence/lattice.jpg Only, the top lattice portion will be 2' high. Now I have to think of what to plant in my patio planters! So much fun! I'm thinking my baby honeysuckle, a clematis, and who knows what else! Any evergreen climbers besides ivy's? Also, would it be okay to plant sweet peas amongst the clematis and honeysuckles next year to add some color variety or would they choke eachother out?
I'll be using the containers that are on top of the railing in the above picture. ps. Yes, celebrating July 1st with my daycare kiddies!
Well, here it is!! You like? I'm already planting my perennials in my planters. I've got my honeysuckle, a clematis, and have saved a bunch of my orange firecracker vine seeds also. Since it's a nice light vine, I think it'll look great up on the patio. Will keep you posted... ps. Please don't comment on my pathetic hanging planters... Picture them full of purple & white petunias next year. The nasturtiums had to go, they were rootbound, I had too many planted in them and they died. I had no idea they grew that huge and that fast! Now I know... live and learn!
