Bought this at the grocery store and the tag only said "tropical plant." I think we are either overwatering it, over-exposing it to the sun, or maybe both !

Please help us figure out how to care for it before we kill it !

    Thanks,
    J

It grows from a corm and the leaves die back annually, after flowering. They should not be cut off while still green, as they are building up the corm's food reserves. It's advisable to water very sparingly for now, then hardly at all when the leaves have died off. Even then I'm not sure about your chances of flowering this plant a second or third year indoors in a cold climate. They need very bright light when in growth.

If you are able to put it outside in the garden it will flower again or alternativley in a pot that can be taken outside when warmer if you are in a very cold / snow type winter. Here they are grown commercialy for flowers, in particular the yellow one. I recently saw a lovely wine coloured one on the supermarket rack. I have the plain old white one that is profuse and large as well as the yellow out in the garden.

Have a look at this page
