I need some help identifying what is going on with the trunk of a 3-4 year old silver maple. There are several areas of the trunk that are splitting. Not sure what is causing this or what I can do to help stop it. I have attempted to post a few pictures and would appreciate any help anyone can give me on what if anything I can do for this tree. Thanks!

It looks as if it happened a while ago, there is wound occlusion growth visible in the cracks. It should make a full recovery; the loose bits of bark over the new wound occlusion growth will slowly break off (don't be worried about this!).

My guess is that the trunk got bashed about during transport from nursery to your house, causing damage to the inner bark.
