I bought a beautiful mass cane about 2 months ago and today I realized that the stalks/trunks are starting to turn green! I don't think this is normal and I've tried to do a bit of research to see what it is, but I can't find anything. Also the tips of the leaves are turning brown and dying. Is this stem rot? Could I be over watering? I actually thought I was under watering - not watering until the dirt felt dry. Please tell me what to do to help my plant it's so beautiful and was quite expensive. I hate to lose it if there's something I can do to save it. The first pic is of the leaves, the 2nd is of the green trunk (it's actually greener than the pic shows), and the 3rd pic is what the trunk looked like when I bought it Sunny
Those both look like normal happenings. The stems are greening most likely because you're exposing the plant (Dracaena 'Lemon Lime') to more light than it got at the nursery/store. Dracs will naturally produce chlorophyll in their trunks under those circumstances, and it's nothing to stress about. Here, this exact plant is used as a living fencepost, and it almost always exhibits that green trunk colouration with absolutely no ill effects to the plants - in fact, the green-stemmed ones seem a bit more robust, if anything. The browning on the leaf tips is also fairly normal, particularly on older foliage. Are you seeing it on all of the leaves, or just on the mature ones? If it's just the mature ones, not to worry; it's natural leaf death due to age. If you're seeing it on the newest leaves as well, the plant may want just a tad more water. If the look of it bothers you, you can simply trim the brown parts of the leaves off without harming the plant.
Thank you soooo very much for your reply! I was seriously worried that my plant had gotten some kind of disease and was dying. I'm glad to know that it's ok. I noticed that the stalks are green on the back side of the stalk, but the fronts of the stalks are tan/brown. It's the back of stalks that get less sun than the fronts. Does that make any sense? As for the tips turning brown - I think I'll give it a little more water and see if they do better. Thank you again for all of your help. I have NO idea what I'm doing and I'm trying to learn!
