Hello, This was growing in Kamloops and was pointed out to me because it caused several people shortness of breath when they tried to mow over it or pull it. Anyone know what it could be? I couldn't find any flowers, and nothing rose more than about 1 cm off the ground. Thanks!
A groundcover Sedum? Hard to imagine any common plant that would cause shortness of breath from pulling it up (other than from exertion?) or mowing it.
Thanks! I thought it might be a sedum - I've never heard of the shortness of breath thing before either but it happened more than once, and to more than one person. Otherwise I would have thought it was just an allergy or sensitivity.
There is actually mention of this on a few websites, but I have not found anything with much substance or citation. In particular Sedum acre is mentioned for its piperidine alkaloids, which have a peppery taste and biting quality. People actually eat small amounts of this, so it can't be too dangerous. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedum http://www.paghat.com/sedum_goldmoss.html http://www.thefullwiki.org/Sedum
