I've been trying for ages to find out what these two plants are. They popped up in my garden a few years ago. I do grow a lot of perennial herbs and am thinking they could have come from some seeds that I might have thrown out.

    #1 -- Leonurus cardiaca
#2/3 -- are the flowers sweet fragrant? Looks like Valeriana species. Valeriana roots have strong and distinctive smell too.

Hi Tyrlych, Wow, I didn't expect a reply this fast. Thanks so much. I had a sniff at the white flowers, they do have a perfume although not a particularly beautiful one. I expect I will have to dig one of the plants up and have a smell at the roots. I believe I tried starting Valerian from seed a few years ago and like I usually do when they don't come up, I toss the soil in the starter tray into the garden beds.

I just googled Leonurus Cardiaca and the common name is Motherwort. I tried starting this from seed, again, a few years ago. Having no luck, again, I tossed the soil in one of the gardens. What a surprise. Thanks again, I've been trying to find out what these two plants were for ages.
