I've had this spiderplant for well over a year. In fact, it seemed to be doing well until it was dumped off a table behind my sofa. I repotted it and moved it to a safer location, which would not be anywhere near my 2 year old son. Anyway, it started to die so I tried just about everything I could think of. I even read giving them asprin might help. I fertilized it, etc. It seemed to be doing better for a month or so, but now it just looks so pitiful. I will attach a link to a photo to see if maybe you guys can help me figure out the problem.

    Got any ideas?

I'm a complete novice but one thing I know that is that spider plants can be neglected for a very long time before they die. I have gone months without watering mine and as soon as I water it's back to normal, they don't require much sunlight. It's surprising to hear that yours is dying, even by dropping it.

You can take one of the buds on the plant and put in a glass water and replant it...my mom does that all the time to give spider plants to friends.

Hi missychele! . Dont worry oceania is right, these plants are hardy!! I have 3 monster spider plants that I have placed on top of my wall unit. They have so many shutes and babies that I have no idea what to do with them all. I end up rooting a few and throw the rest out. Anyway your plant isn't dying but I see your plant is growing away from the light. I suggest either another location of filtered light as they tend to dislike direct sun or simply turn the plant if you want to keep it where it is every so often so it straightens out, that is what I do.Once you start getting shutes and the babies grow, root a couple of them and then what you can do is take one of the newly rooted ones and plant it in with the existing plant. It will eventually become quite lush. I water mine once every 2 weeks with lukewarm water and I add miracle grow drops to the water. When you get an abundance of shutes(and you eventually will) you will find the plant will work hard to get nourishment to the babies so at that point remove any of the ones that don't look that great as well as any dead leaves and the plant will get the nourishment it needs to stay healthy!!

Thanks for responding guys. I know it's a pretty hardy plant or I would have killed it already;-) It gets neglected quite a bit. I did move it to another location where there is less light. While it doesn't look any worse, it doesn't look any better, either.

I think my problem is now that I keep fussing with it. It's probably in shock from all the attention I have been giving it. Maybe if I just leave it be it will be happier.

dont worry about it .. mine has been dumped many a times by my cats and it is doin pretty good ... one thing u might want to do is take the pot and tap it on a table or floor and bang the dirt down ... sometimes when pots get dumped or when u repot plants there can b a air pocket under the roots and the plant wont grow .. i found out the hard way with my neon pothos the poor thing wouldnt grow .. and when i went to dig my hand in to get a chunk for a trade i noticed a big air pocket under the roots so i just took the whole pot and banged it on the floor a few times and it started growing after that .. so now with all my plants they get a good banging when i repot ..lol..

    good luck with it .

Marn, that might be a good suggestion. I just repotted it not too long ago and it may have some air bubbles in there. Another thing, I don't like the potting soil I used. I purchased a Miracle Grow type of soil which retains water, I suppose to keep watering down to a minimum, but I'm not too sure that's a good idea. What do you guys think of this type of soil? Could this be part of the problem?

Personally I just use the giant bags of all purpose potting soil that you get from walmart!! I can't be bother paying a ton of money for fancy dirt!! I have never used the miracle grow soil. I just use the miracle grow drops in the water!!Just like marn said bang the pot down to settle the dirt and your plant will be just fine!!
