My mum found some kind of seed or bulb casing in New Zealand on the beach about 10 years ago. It is onion-shaped, light brown and has a filigree pattern. Very recently it was destroyed and I'm trying to find out what it is, with the hope of getting another one! Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.
Are you certain this is of plant origin? It looks very much to me like the remains of a sea creature, something like a sponge or relative.
Hi, thanks for your replies. It's definitely of plant origin, it's a fibrous thatchy kind of material. My guess is some kind of palm or similar as I have seen round palm seeds with a slightly similar filigree on the outside, but I have never seen another one like this. Maybe it's from a south pacific island like Vanuatu or Samoa.
