Does anyone know if I can save this plant I water it once a week or until the soil is not wet . It doesn't get a lot of sun ....the stem is getting a little squishy....I'm from Windsor ontairo
Hello David - welcome to the Forums. Your plant is a Dracena marginata isn't it? These plants can tolerate a lot of abuse but not overwatering, which I think is what you (and I) suspect is the problem with yours. The fact that the stem is getting a little squishy is not good but it depends on where it is getting soft . . . hopefully not near the soil . At this point, I would definitely hold off watering for at least 2 weeks but keep the plant in a nice bright location out of direct sunlight (such as it is this time of year.) If the squishy stems are near the top, I would cut them and the leaves off to below where the stem feels firm. Use clean, sharp scissors or cutters. Dracenas can manage without leaves for quite a while and will produce new ones if they are otherwise healthy. If the squishy stems are near the soil, that's not good but you may still be able to salvage enough of a firm section of stem above that to make a cutting from which to produce a fresh new plant or plants. There are lots of websites that explain how to propagate Dracenas although many suggest rooting them in water which is something many of us would not recommend.
