I bought this plant about 2 months ago from Lowe's ...it has been in its 5 gallon bucket until today when I transplanted to larger pot. I noticed about a week ago the leaves looked thinner, a bit puckered and were yellowing, dropping faster than previously. I live in Palm Springs, so air conditioner is on constantly, very low humidity. The air is 82 while at work and 74 when home. The plant is between two large windows and gets lots of light. Can someone tell me: 1) Did I over water it? 2) Did I under water it? 3) Did the fact I waited so long to re-pot create this problem? If none of the above what can I do to make it happy again. It was thriving. Pictures attached. Thank you
Well, if you just repotted you might have damaged the large root that tends to sit at the bottom of the soil and curl around the pot (I don't think that it's a tap root though). Still, I've washed off the soil from one of mine years ago and repotted it (had crazy fungus) and it forgave me for that so I'm not totally sure if that's the problem. Having said that, if the plant is near to the AC or gets cold draughts that could be causing similar problems. The only thing that comes to mind is to move it to a shadier location for a few weeks and give it a bit less water. You might want to try to increase it for a while after repotting if it upset the plant. Best of luck, -Ryan P.S. The loss of the lower leaves (not the top ones mind you) may be totally natural. The leaves are said to have a lifespan of 2 years.
