I started gardening in my townhouse complex for about a year now. In my 10' x 10' area I have in there a small lavender bush, a bunch of herbs, along with some hostas and creeping phlox. Deal to the fact that my gardening area is on a slight slope, our complex's landscaping company suggested that we will have erosion problem when the fall comes and it is best to pull out all the plants and put in Kinnick-kinnick as ground cover instead. I am very troubled by their finding. Since my ground slope is minimal with no more then 20 degrees, the situation groundcover plants will have very little impact on erosion. In fact the more quickly growing selection of perennials which can be seen in my garden will grow more rapidly than Kinnick-kinnick and provide improved coverage of the soil in this area as well as being more interesting aesthetically. It would be an illogical and retrograde course of action to remove these plants and replace them with groundcover. So far our council had ignored my option and motioned to go ahead to have all plants removed deal to erosion concerns. They came to believe that a landscaping company would have more experience in this issue then a regular gardener like me. In here I hope I can find someone to come by and have a look at the area, write a report on the fact that erosion will not be a problem and maybe I would be able to safe my little garden. I am willing to spend money on hiring landscape architects, however this maybe a busy season, and no one is responding me just yet. I really would like to save my little garden, it brings me tears to think of my garden being taken down. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you so much.
