    Hi all,

My beautiful young tree (4 years old) fell to the ground during the winter storm. I managed to bring it back up. It grew leaves and little pussy willows in March. But now the leaves are turning brown and falling off. The branches are also not growing out like they used to. I looked for bugs and disease but couldn't find any. Shall I put fertilizer or more soil at the bottom. Some of the big roots are exposed.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Maybe the stem broke when it fell. Fertilizer won't help with that, fertilizer only helps when a plant needs more minerals. You may have to just get a new one. Put it someplace where you won't feel compelled to give it a salad bowl haircut. Open the roots up and spread them out when you plant, the one you have now may have been root-bound - this is very common with nursery stock of all types offered these days - causing it to be poorly anchored and go over on you.

Did the roots come right out of the ground when it failed, or did it only partially fall over?

Thanks for the replies. Some of the roots came out of the ground when it fell. It showed some life for a while but Ron B is right. The top of the tree is now completely dried but dozens of shoots are coming out from root. I had to make a decision and sadly pulled the tree out.
