Hello everyone - I am a photographer and usually enjoy identifying anything & everything I take pictures of. I have been searching everywhere trying to find something that looks like what I found but to no avail. It was found in a forest in West Virginia. Any feedback appreciated! Thanks.
great picture! check out this thread -- http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=54894 everything you want to know about this chlorophyll-less plant is in there.
SOOOO lucky! I've yet to find living Ghost Pipes...they're just beautiful! Keep an eye out in this area and let us know if you ever see the red variety!
I couldn't get to the link that MycoRob posted. You have a nice picture of an Indian Pipe (Monotropa uniflora). As they age, the "head" goes straight up and they turn black. In the spring you can see last year's black ones still standing. I found a nice patch of them last week.
