Need help identifying

    I took this photo on Mt. Bonnell in Austin, TX. I'd never seen a succulent like this one before. I want to be able to tag the photo correctly.

    Any thing helps.

    Might be a Rhipsalis species?

    Peculiar the way it is sending out shoots from what I presume are the fruit (the red segments).

    Cylindropuntia leptocaulis, commonly called the "Pencil Cholla". It a very common weedy species in your area.

    Be careful. Those short branches are easily detached and can get on clothing.

    No Rhipsalis grow wild in Texas.
