Greetings, I found this plant on Mt. Tabor in Portland. As part of a project for class, I need to identify several plants. I grabbed a photo of this, and a leaf sample. I have been through every page of Pojar, as well as the USDA plant identification website, with no luck. I am convinced it is something simple, but i am just missing it somewhere. Perhaps someone around here can help me out. I greatly appreciate it.
Welcome PFoster. Looks like Prunus laurocerasus. common name Cherry laurel. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...urce=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=deJgT_7JOsaS0QXUs8ifBw http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prunus_laurocerasus
I had considered invasive species, though I didn't see cherry laurel on the list for Mt Tabor. It would seem likely that it is a Prunus laurocerasus. I will keep looking through images until I can find a confirming picture of the buds. Thanks!
