I just noticed this plant at the waterfront of yaletown seawall yesterday, and would like to know what it is. I have never seen anything like it, with florettes of different colours on one flower head, like a mini bouquet with a rounded pom shape. The plant and flowers have a strong pungent herbal scent to it.
This is one of the many cultivars of Lantana camara, originally from the New World tropics but now widely naturalised. In the tropics it can be invasive, overunning dry pastures, but as it cannot survive the Vancouver winter, there is no danger of that in BC.
Thanks to qcronk, I've found a website that has great infor on the lantana camara. For anyone interested, http://www.floridata.com/ref/l/lant_c.cfm
