Would love some help identifying this plant (fern?). Found this in a home in Massachussets, but not entirely sure it's native to the Northeast. Thanks!
Whoa nelly!!! Your spectacular plant looks far more likely to be native to the planet Pandora, as in the movie Avatar. Hope that someone IDs this beauty soon---I am amazed and stumped! Alocasia...banana??? What a lovely plant! Welcome to the Forum, p.p.---what a great first post!
It reminds me of Asplenium ferns. However, it looks so very thick and leathery I wonder if it is a real fern or not. Have you tried to gently rip a small piece just to see? Asplenium nidus looks a little like it. However, I am not convinced. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgu...earchBox&rlz=1I7SUNA_en-GB&ndsp=20&tbs=isch:1
Asplenium 'Crispy Wave' perhaps? http://www.gasa-holstebro.dk/files/manager/asplenium--crispy-wave.jpg
Can you post more photos? Please show the following: Complete top of a leaf Close up of the top of a leaf so the vein structure can be seen Same photos of the bottom of the leaf The base of the plant so it can be determined how the plant emerges from the soil If the blades are supported by a stalk please show a closeup of that, especially if it is any shape other than round. Are thhe blades thick and leathery or thin? Have you ever seen this plant produce anything that looks like a flower? If so, can you describe it? Steve
I believe I may have tracked this one down but without more photos to confirm the number of veins in the leaf as well as whether or not the sink or rise on each side I can't be certain. The photos showing the petiole that supports the leaves as well as the stem at the base of the plant will also be important. Steve
