this shrub is somewhat woody with a reddish tinge to bark. Not completely ful red. the leaves are leathery and variegated as well as wavy surface. margin is entire, with red petioles. the shrubs i work with are about four and a half feet tall. Please help cause my boss wont i am sorry that i dont have a picture right this minute but i will try to get it up soon
I wouldn't call redtwig dogwood leathery, otherwise - yes - one of the many variegated forms of this would fit the bill. C. stolonifera 'Variegata' is not a usual name for any of these, in fact the recent Timber Press Dogwoods book mentions one of the authors only seeing a poorly variegated specimen so-labeled one time. Much more prevalent will be stock labeled C. alba 'Elegantissima' (Dogwoods wants this to be called 'Argenteo-marginata') and various other more recent introductions now on the market (big production nurseries back East continue to select and introduce new forms).
You are kind to say 'not usual', as it appears a combination of hasty typing and faulty memory on my part has resulted in the creation of a (perhaps) fictitious plant. Sounds real, though. Meant one of the albas, of course....
no the fruit is not even close to that bold. i have a pic but dont know how to add it to my thread it is not red twig dogwood that much i do know. My boss is giving me a plant every week and this week its this one. He let me know that was not it right away. the branches have a reddish tinge but are nowhere near the redness of the dogwood
Stated height is a bit tall for these (within a foot or so...), but perhaps one of the Hypericums? In the absence of a pic, that's all I've got.
i dont think so. the blooms are far less obvious.....i could be wrong though. i looked it up and it is not the right one. thanks you though. the older growth is woody while younger growth is soft. variegated color, red petioles with red blotches along the stems. not an arching habit.
