There are ants eating my blossoms. I had brought the tree in because of the frost and noticed that the tree started to blossom, so I then took it back outdoors. Ever since, I haven't been able to get rid of the ants. What should I Do? Thanks, Tim
Tanglefoot is an excellent remedy - treat the trunk and then make sure the ants can't get onto the plant except by climbing the trunk (ie they can't run up the wall and get on to the leaves). Then brush all the ants (or vaccum them) off the plant. You can also try insecticidal soaps, but I've found that they're a temporary measure. The tanglefoot is a preventative.
The ants are usually there to farm pests such as aphids and scale for their honeydew rather than to attack the tree itself. You may need to deal with more than just ants.
