Hi,everyone! It's my pleasure to show some plant photos taken last year during my field survey for the Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCAS) which located in Beijing. An now I am staying in Beijing. Guangxi, an autonomous region, is in Southern China, ajancent to Guangdong where Canton, and Hongkong maybe better known by people. The climate there is mostly subtropical,However the southwest border of Guangxi which connected with Vietnam,a tropical country and being called Shiwandashan is tropical and is extremly abundant in plants. The west border conected with Yunnan Province, whose plant species as much as 18000. It is reported that the total number of plant species in this autonomous region is more than 9000 and there is still maybe a large number to be discovered. Last year I was fortunately enough to join in an field survey to this region, we went through several national reserves , include Jiuwanshan,in Rongshui , Dayaoshan, in Jinxiu, Maoershan in Xing'an. The photos I showed were all taken at JiuWanShan,(in Chinese this word means Ninety thousands Mountains),Located in Rongshui, Northern Border of Guangxi. Although the climate of the reserve is not tropical, the number of plant species is more than 3000. Some of the species or even genera are endemic to China, you can see them nowhere else. I would like to stop here, and I wish you can enjoy the plants from this region which is called the most beatiful places in China.
Well, either of the species were found, but in Jinxiu county(formally called Dayaoshan, And Huaping, Longsheng Province)
Well done though! A lot of these are species with no other photos available anywhere om the internet.
Well worth all your effort. Some really interesting plants, good to see the names with the pics. Many plants from China do very well in British gardens, we have a couple that you show here. Hope one day more will become available to the West! Many thanks for your marathon!
:) The identification of the plants were all given by myself, since I am not an expert in that region, there will be mistake , inevitabally. I wonder how may of them were given the wrong name, and this may become the task of the taxonomists including you all. Thank you. BTW, Plants in Gutianshan, Zhenjiang province which is in eastern China also subtropical , and Plants in Maoershan,in Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China, (The Far East Asia, near Russia and North Korea)will be post here, I hope, when I have time.
Hi, Michael I suggest you to visit the webpage Chinese viture Herbarium if you are intersted in plant of this region. I've learn a lot from that website, and more than 68148 photos from 273 familes 2053 genera and 6599 species ,(about 2/3 of the genera reported in the country )were added and the number is still increasing. Hope you will enjoy with it. http://www.cvh.ac.cn/index.asp
