I love coleus and I'd really love to find seeds for this kind, but I don't know what it's called, and I've only ever seen packets of mixed seeds in the store. I'd like to find out what this cultivar is called and then order seeds from some where, can anyone help?

    Thanks!

    Those are great links JungleKeeper,

I don't care much for the mixed variety plant flats commonly offered at garden shops. I prefer to only use one or two colours of a plant in the garden, but I have usually just bought the commonly available ones - Palisandra, Limelight, etc. One year I found a nice seedling and took several cuttings from it to use in the garden - you get your own unique cultivar that way. But not all seedlings turn out to be the best growers.

I'm amazed by the number of cultivars of this plant. Guess it's another one growers like to 'slice-and-dice', like poinsettia. What I found interesting is the picture search function in the 'Finder' site in which one can select by colors and leaf shapes. Sure is helpful when you're dealing with so many cultivars.

Close but the distinctive red spots near the leaf margin are missing in 'Swiss Sunshine'.

The word 'Wizard' may be part of this plant's cultivar name. I saw some plants this weekend that look much this one. One found in a flat marked 'Wizard Mix' even had the spots along its leaf margin. The other was similar and was labelled 'Wizard Rose'. The keyword wizard also led to the genus Solenostemon.

I've seen those ones marked "wizard mix" before, and seen one that's close to the one I'm looking for.. I bought it but it's not quite the same, I'll keep looking in those wizard mixes! Thanks for thinking of this for me.

Just a possibility, but Coleus plants often produce sports. Though not too likely you're picture may be a sport of 'Swiss Sunshine' or one of the Wizard types, which would explain the abscence of the red dots in other photos.
