Hello there. My husband and I have had this cactus for about two years and we have no idea what it is. I desperately want to identify it because it is starting to die and I want to save it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
There are three things I would suggest from your photo that may help. First the potting medium looks like it may not be porous enough for good drainage. A good commercial cactus mix might help or make your own by adding a generous portion of sand and pearlite to regular potting soil. I use 1/2 potting soil and 1/4 each of sand and pearlite. Water only when the soil has dried out and make sure the cactus gets good light to avoid etoliation. HTH. Bill
Yes Chamaecereus silvestrii,Peanut Cactus. I have one in the greenhouse. They like as much sun they can get, they colour up a bit but should reward you with impressive red or mauve flowers.
