Can anybody help me recognizing the mushroom in the attached photos and are they it edible? I am new member and I am not certain that
These appear to be young specimens of Tapinella atrotomentosa, which used to be called Paxillus atrotomentosus, easily identified by its brown velvet stem, which is more obvious in older specimens. It normally grows on wood; I suspect there is buried wood under it. Rogers Mushrooms states that it is poisonous or suspect regarding edibility. I've never tried it.
