I would appreciate any help in IDing this tree. It is of course resplendent with fall colour at the moment but is usually the colour of the leaves in the centre of the closeup picture.

It appears to be Cercidiphyllum japonicum, truly a beautiful tree. Joe

    Dear Joe and Michael:

Thanks for your speedy and definitive IDs. This tree in fact lives near us in a northwest facing corner front yard. We covet one and will now be able to research where to get a mature-ish specimen, and whether it will thrive where we picture it, in our south facing backyard as a shade tree.

    Cheers,

    Andrea

Needs summer moisture to thrive. One in a Seattle neighborhood probably built on old lakebed (moist, heavy soil) measured 84' x 10'11" x 63' in 1993.
