Hi all, this is my 1st post here. Cool site. My education is in Horticulture altho I don't work in the industry. The tree in question sprouted from ?? that I'm sure I planted in my porch jungle. I have the nasty habit of burying anything I find that might grow. So, I have no idea what this is or when I planted it. 2 actually came up and I transplanted one of them in the hopes that the seed or tuber was still visible under the ground. No such luck. Please take a look at it and give any opinions. Other than the picture it has a very generic 'green' smell when the leaves are smashed and also has a white milky sap. THanx in advance. Accident
I'm pretty sure it's not a ficus sp. I would never plant one that close to the house and I have lots of experience with multiple varieties. !Accident
White sap makes me think Ficus too. Can you get a close-up of a growing point with a new leaf starting to grow?
On fist blush I thought Oleander, but there are things about the leaves and the smell you report that eliminate it. I'd have to go with Ficus too. You may not have planted it, either - birds routinely eat ficus fruit and deposit little surprises in my garden. You haven't lived until you've tried to remove a strangler fig from an Acacia tree.
Yes, I can. Will try to post it later. There isn't that little new leaf guard that wraps the new grown on ficus sp. !A
That's exactly what I was thinking of ;-) . . . if it doesn't have that, then it isn't a fig. Sorry, don't know what it is then.
Dunno but it went from 81F(27c) at 1PM to 37F(~3c) at 8:30PM tonight here in Austin so you might want to cover it! Regards chris It's freeking SLEETING now 9:15pm!
