I am wondering what these trees are? I've never seen anything like them before & I'm a pretty seasoned gardener. They appear to be City Street Trees on Sophia. St. in East Van just west of Main St., @ 27th-ish Ave. area. & they run for about half a block.

They're fairly young, perhaps 6-8 years old, @ 4" diameter trunks, maybe @ 15' tall?

They have gooseberry-sized orange-coloured fruit all over them that resemble large rose-hips, save for the straight, rigid pointy "prongs" on the end of each fruit, with a delicate, almost stylized, upturned wavy branching habit.

I can't even begin to guess what plant family they may belong to.

Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
