Anybody know this one? I have three of them in my yard. Here are pictures of two and a close up picture of the leaves and red berries that they sometimes have on them. Plus, there is a slightly spicy odor about them. It's a mild and pleasant odor. It really comes out when you prune them back. My main concern is watering and what time of year is appropriate to trim them- as you can see, they really need it right now!

    Thanks for all your help-

Skimmia japonica. Ones in left view need some taller shrubs added to planting rather than being whacked back. If others are over path selective pruning should help. Arborvitae will outgrow position in time and should probably be removed. Leaf discoloration of skimmia due to cultural issue such as too much sun or magnesium deficiency.
