My neice recently married and bought an older house with a backyard garden. Some of the plants are unrecognizable to me. Can you help me identify them, please? Thank you for your help ... Veronica

Number two looks like one of the orange cultivars of Echinacea. Did it make that bee drunk? If so, that's a positive test.

I think the first is Galium odoratum, sweet woodruff.

Agree with Sweet Woodruff / Gallium odoratum on the first.

The second would appear to be a bicolour Helenium (Helenium autumnale). Maybe "Mardi Gras" or "Red and Gold". There are a few bicoloured varieties.

i agree with sweet woodruff. i'm not familiar with the other one - i doubt it's an echinacea, though (leaf isn't quite right).

VMT, be careful about introducing sweet woodruff. It is cute.... but will spread to form huge patches. After the flowers it produces tiny ball, containing the seeds, that cling to anything that brushes past it.See....
