Please help identify a mystery plant. We have a sunny spot during a wet summer where we had placed some mulch (something like cocoa shell mulch?), and this large plant came up. As you can see in the picture, it has large - almost like elephant ear - leaves, but with pointed tips. It has quite a few trumpet-shaped white-shading to lavender flowers (upper right in picture). The flower is not the spot where the spine-covered slightly eliptical/globular (?fruit/seed clusters) are appearing, which are becoming the size of small peaches (upper center part of picture). The fairly heavily branched, somewhat umbrella-habited plant is maybe 7-8 feet tall at this point. We've never seen anything like it. Can anyone help us identify this plant? Thank you!
Hello, This is a Datura. It's not Datura inoxia, based on leaf shape. Possibly Datura stramonium? Have a look at this image from Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding in Cologne, Germany
